I haven't seen Cadillac Records yet, and it doesn't appear that any theater in the state is showing it right now. I drove 37 miles, yesterday, to see Frost/Nixonl There is only one theater in the state showing it, and it seemed to be the hot ticket on New Year's Day. I arrived to see the 1:10 show and was told I could sit on the first row, if I wanted to see it. So I watched Bedtimes Stories and caught the 4:10 F/N. Well worth the wait. Awards all around. Very compelling film. I'll read your inflluencial artists list on your blog and keep my eyes open for Cadillac Records. I'm making my list of 34 artists I want to be sure to hear throughout the year. So far, I have 8 artists/bands listed.

Hope Xmas was good. Have you seen 'Cadillac records'? Chess Records is kind of my special subject and I am wondering what other people thought. Some portrayals were better than others. The guy who played Howlin' Wolf really captured the intensity and scariness of the man I think. The Muddy Waters portrayal not so great, especially the vocal performances.

I found a guitar solo you might be curious to hear. Howlin' Rain sounds like lost (real lost) Faces tracks. Please to enjoy and happy holidays.

Richard and Linda...It is hard to name just a few, but 'I want to see the bright lights tonight', 'Pour Down Like Silver', 'The Princess is Dancing In The Egypt Room Tonight' (From Hokey Pokey) and 'Shoot Out the Lights' and 'Did She Jump or was she pushed' from shoot out the lights are certainly a few. As for ones with Linda chiefly on vocaqls, 'Dimming Of The Day' has to be a must. You should also check out Teddy Thompson, their son. he has a couple of albums out, and played on Linda's comeback album. Also worth checking out are albums by Clive Gregson and Christine Collister, particularly one called 'Home & Away'. Gregson started off in a UK band called Any Trouble that were very much in the Elvis Costello/Joe Jackson mould around the start of new wave, but then he and Christine Collister were both part of Richard Thompson's road band for many years. He played guitar and she did backing vocals and the 'Linda' bits on some songs. Anyway, they worked as a duo, she has a great voice, and he writes really good songs. I think you might like them. One last thing, what do you think of 'Fleet Foxes' and 'Bon Iver'? Feels like some sort of folky revival, but in a good way. Fleet Foxes in particular seem to have something about them which reminds me of Fairport. I love their album.

Now you have opened a can of worms with your Richard & Linda/Fairports question. I really like the Fairport album 'Unhalfbricking' which was made before the band had committed totally to folk rock. The track Cajun Woman is my favorite from that one. Other than that, I am afraid I go for the obvious ones, 'Who Knows Where the Time goes', 'Meet on the ledge' (great guitar from Thompson on that one) 'Matty Groves' and 'Fotheringay'. When Sandy Denny left Fairport Convention, she formed a band called Fotheringay with her husband Trevor Lucas. They issued one album and that was it, but I read in Uncut last week that they have found enough of the masters for an unreleased 2nd album to release it, it came out a few weeks ago. Haven't heard it yet but I plan to.

Did you know there are radio dramas featuring the ninth Doctor Who streamed on bbc.co.uk? Go to the iplayer, radio 7 and then the science fiction section and listen away. I like Donna as a sidekick very much, but my favorite will always be Sarah Jane who appeared in the early 70s and is now back with her own spinoff show. (She was also in that last season 4 episode) I have been a Doctor Who fan since the first episode which went out when I was six in 1963. I can recall it vividly because just as I was getting into the whole thing, it was interrupted by a newsflash. The significance didn't hit me then, but it was actually the announcement that JFK had been shot!

They are really just demos, but they will be up on Itunes, etc. Also, I have got a tiny deal with an East Coast blues label so there will be a full CD of originals early next year. Just a mere 26 years between releases in my case!

I really like what I've heard so far. I'm only sampling the songs. Let me know when they are on iTunes and I will purchase them for love, and not for German engineering. I had some choice names for you when I first read your Halloween mix. Yet another great mix, jerk. :p

feargal Sharkey lives in my home town back home, Finchley, and drinks at my old local, the Old White Lion. He also rides about town on a beat up red bicycle, both facts pointing to life being hard since the glory days. I can also testify that he is shite at trivia quizes!

haven't heard the new Kings Of Leon yet. I am still engrossed in the new Mogwai and also the new BB King, It is produced by T-Bone Burnett, and features songs BB would have covered when he started out. It is extraordinary, his best album in 20 years easily.
