description:
I am in an instrumental band, and I love instrumental music. Music with no words seems to convey so much more emotion and energy than the normal song that relies on the verse and chorus. Some contain intricate minimalism, others are filled with mind blowing experimental noise. Regardless of the intentions: Music made is music felt.

tracklist

1 1 Mile North : In 1983 He Loved To Fly
For fans of Tristeza and Labradford. This is a minimalist song filled with ambience. Technological it's amazing the way the sounds and instruments are arranged. It's a great opening track to fit the mood.

3 Six Parts Seven : What You Love You Must Love Now
Another reason why I love Ohio. This is a great band filled with nice guys. The bass and slide/lap guitar give them a great midwestern sound. When that is added with a vibrophone you just get great music.

5 Do Make Say Think : The Landlord Is Dead
My favorite instrumental band. I had to put them on here. They put on the best live show I've ever seen. This album was recorded during the summer in a barn in Toronto. At the right moments you can turn up the album and hear crickets chirping. The unintended ambience and live recording makes for a nice warm effect you can't produce in a studio.

6 This Will Destroy You : The World is Our _____
Currently one of my most listened to bands. If you like Explosions In The Sky then you'll like them. But personally I think they blow EITS away.

7 Murder by Death : Those Who Stayed
Actually this song is called "Those Who Left". But that's ok. Not every instrumental song has to come from an instrumental band. Murder By Death proves it with this song.

ps. I noticed the crickets on the Do Make Say Think album aswell! I love the whole barn sound on it, some of the instruments sound huge but clear and detailed in a way that only natural reverb can make somehting sound as opposed to some cubase vst plug-in. My personal favourite is When Day Chokes the Night for various reasons that would make this note too long.

Even though I have not heard any of these songs (really - I am ashamed of myself, actually) but I have to give you props for the inspiration behind this tape. I agree that instrumental music can convey a lot of emotion (when done well). Instrumentals have to convey a lot more power with the music than songs with lyrics do.
