Sorry, not MC related directly, but check out http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/18/arts/music/18dram.html

I have no idea who the guy is, but that is ridiculous.

Yeah, I heard about this. I heard it was something to do with uncredited samples on commerical mixtapes or something. Absurd none the less.

This is bloody disgusting. The scared asswipes in the music industry are so scared at their shrinking business (25% reduction in CD sales in last five years) that they bite a hand that actually feeds them if they stop to think about it!

Hah. The RIAA doesn't stand for artists' rights.
Since burning became popular, there has not been a significant drop in CD sales, because most of the people burning and sharing are real music fans who will likely go buy the CDs anyway to get special art, hidden tracks, etc. Furthermore, there has not been a drop in ticket sales to concerts. If anything, sales are on the rise. I don't have enough money to spend a few thousand dollars on CDs. However, if my buddy hands me a disc and says, 'check out this band,' I'll hear a new band that I might pay money to see. Sharing music, to an extent, is helpful to an artist's career, as displayed in this case.
To my understanding, the artists themselves make most of their money off of tours, meaning ticket sales. The RIAA is standing up for big record companies with overpaid lawyers and executives, not artists.

It looks like the problem arose in this situation with the "sale" of the mixtapes.
My old boss took on the RIAA in RIAA v. Verizon, representing the girl that didn't want her ISP disclosed to the RIAA.

eric and cory, if you guys get hassled let me know, I can help.

Yeah, it is bull, he was putting out mixtape's. Those arent illegal, o well.

And DJ Drama is a Dj who did Lil' Wayne's mixtapes, And the Gangster Grillz series, which is amazing if you can get them.

And I dont think they were commercial mixtapes, but o-well.
