My contribution to the contest... A series of songs that make me think about both high school (which I'm not attending) and college (which I am).

Song that should be on the list but isn't because it's not on an album anywhere: "Reach!" - also known as the Lecture Musical - as performed by Prangstgrup.

tracklist

1 Superchic[k] : High School
We start off with a song about how all of life is like high school, really, isn't it? A cheerful reminder of all the things that make high school high school. "There's always a prom queen, there'll always be, always be sororities."

2 Relient K : Sadie Hawkins Dance
And another one cheerfully detailing high school life.

"Sadie Hawkins dance,
And my khaki pants,
There's nothing better... (Oh, oh, oh!)
The girls ask the guys,
It's always a surprise,
There's nothing better...
Baby, do you like my sweater?"

3 Stephen Schwartz : Dancing Through Life
My first (but not last) showtune of the mix. A young man arrives at school and proceeds to tell his classmates that school is overrated and they should just enjoy themselves.

"The trouble with schools is, they always try to teach the wrong lesson.
Believe me, I've been kicked out of enough of them to know."
They want you to become less callow, less shallow, but I say why invite stress in?
Stop studying strife, and learn to live the unexamined life!"

(On an actual mix I would probably only include the first half of this song, as the middle and end are mostly plot building for the rest of the show.)

4 Eddie DeGarmo and Bob Farrell : Party in the House Today
Although nobody in this song is actually at school, it fits the mood, sandwiched amongst the other "Pah, responsibility? Problems? Let's just party!" songs.

"You may not think I'm the brightest troop in this strange fraternity.
A lot of you think I'm the reddest neck in all of humanity,
But I'm here to say we gotta lighten up, let's put this grief aside.
Things are good, they ain't that bad, you gotta fix that in your mind,
And I'm pleased to get it started for us all. Let's party in the house today!"

In a dorm with a meal plan again."
