Like I said earlier in the story, inmates make desperate attempts to break the boredom of prison life, but where i worked they always feared being transfered to a far away prison. This made the "dings" prime targets for manipulation. ILM's would whisper to them from nearby cells or through ventalation ducts, urging them to do something rash. While I was there, inmates were successful in coaxing dings into attempting suicide, attacking others, cutting themselves with razor blades, diving off tiers, ect.

Usually within a few days after my initial interview with them, they would come to my office requesting to go back to the special classification unit. When this was denied, they would again show up at my office, this time complaning of hearing voices, depressin, or physical illness. On more than one occasion a "ding" would come to my office and announce "I just ate a razor blade. I need to go back." Or "I just cut myself again, i need to go back." One "ding" simply stood up, took a few steps toward the desk. fell forward as if fainting, caught himself in a push up position, then fell the last few inches to the carpet. He refused to respond when yelled at or shaken and had to be carried to the hospital.
