liner notes
"I don't believe in indie-anything anymore. As anyone who is mildly close to anyone who makes music knows, the streams of income have been diminished. There is no such thing as sellout. It's a joke. And besides, in my mind, indie just means 'half-assed.'"

Here's a splendid mix a good friend made for me after I told him about this site. He refused to sign up and post it himself, but told me to do so on his behalf. It is just a great all-around mix. Seriously, it is a great listen. Please enjoy at your leisure.

This is a mix I made for my good friend who has been called back to Iraq after already serving 1 1/2 years there. He and his wife are expecting a child, and he is going to miss the birth because of fucking military duty. Well, plus he's going to a freakin' place where he can get shot or blown up or something dumb like that. It is just a shitty situation in general, and I'm not very happy about it. I lost a cousin when the war first started and that sucked. I was happy when Brock made it back to the states alive. But now he has to go back, and that feeling of uncertainty is creeping back in. And this is just me, who doesn't have to strap on camo and pack around a gun. I'm sure he is feeling pretty wary himself. So I've compiled a mix of music that hopefully will help take his mind off of reality when he's sweating his ass off in the Middle East.
The mix starts out mellow enough, then works itself up into a temper-tantrum, and then cools off...but just a little bit. I used mostly songs that he likes, but threw in a couple songs I like in hopes that he will enjoy them as well.
NOTE: I in NO WAY agree with the conflict in Iraq, but you better fucking believe that I'm going to support those who are over there fighting.
Also, if you don't like the fact that there are some shitty bands on this mix, do me a favor: FUCK OFF! I didn't make this mix for you, I made it for Brock. And if he likes Disturbed, then so be it. He's the one putting his life on the line every day of his job. You just sit at your computer and feel all indie and shit. Congratufuckinglations.

Red light
Green light of love
And death rides a horse; National disgrace
Chateau in virginia waters of march
On the table for two months
Off into the white light
In the black history month
This mix fills up the tape (2 secs off!) and takes full advantage of the open contest. No theme, just match the words. Well, I wanted this mix to have a diverse, uh, mix, of genres, and I wanted the tracks to work well together while maintaining their uniqueness. I think it works.

So I had just made this mixtape yesterday (7/18) with no real theme in mind, and my girlfriend and I were out running errands listening to it when *ka-POW* we get into a wreck and total her car. I guess it now has setimental value.

So this is one of those typical mixtapes that is made in an attempt to woo a girl. I'm not talking about songs of "love" and "missing you while your away" and stuff like that. I just mean good music that sets a specific precedence.
However, I must impart this little story to you all, because I find it so funny (even though it is a little crude). According to a friend who was previously in possession of this mix, "Not long after I gave this to her, my face was in her private parts." Direct quote. Crass, but true. All is now well, and the owner of the face and the owner of the private parts are a happy couple. Proof this mix works wonders!

This is a collection of songs that my friends and I were all into during Junior High. If you'll notice, it was a sad state of affairs. That is what happens when one grows up in a town of about 1700 people. I was surrounded by Lynard Skynard, Metallica, AC/DC, and country, so I did all I could to avoid that (still do!). That is my attempt to justify this mix.

Second place sucks. You're close enough to first that you can taste it, but you aren't considered good enough to have won. As the saying goes, you are indeed the first loser. Well, you'd be amazed at how many great songs follow up the opening album track on their respective albums. This compilation pays homage to the songs that were never quite good enough to make that #1 slot. Please join me in giving the following songs the credit they so rightly deserve.
