Out trivia-ed indeed, so you know I have to have a come-back. Hendrix recorded Spainish Castle Magic flat on his back, an incident that was recreated in "Stardust", the very silly David Essex rockstar movie!

I read you comment on Nick Drake lying on his back to record his vocal part. John Lennon did the same thing during Revolution (the B-side version)

Did I out trivia you????

I truly miss the JP Festive Fifty. It was always a chance to hear stuff I wouldn't have thought of hearing, plus catch up with what The Fall had been up to!

I have Blues stuff from 1920, quite a bit in the 50s, but the sixties is where most things except blues and jazz start for me!

Dick found anti sax purists a lot in his career. When he joined Alexis Korners Blues Incorporated, Englands first blues band, the harp player with the band, Cyril Davies also thought the sax was the instrument of the devil.

My father always considers the sax as the instrument of the devil and it has no place in Jazz

He is a traditionalist at heart.....

I thought I would share that.

I will have to get my father to find that tape. if he can i'll mp3 it and send it to you.

I know the battlefield band; but I dont really care for them that much. Me and Scottish folk music dont play nice together. Years of the Alexander Brothers and the Corries at new year, i'd imagine

I didn't know about the blues bagpiper, but I do have a strange piper story myself. I used to be the manager of blues and jazz sax player Dick Heckstall-Smith who told me the story of playing a festival in Scotland which also featured a roots folk band (The Battlefield Band? something like that) which had pipers. Deep into a drunken lock-in at a pub, Dick and the bagpipers jammed, and so impressed was he with this that the seeds were planted which led him to write a jazz suite combining celtic themes with jazz. The resulting album was called 'Celtic Steppes'.

Nazareth came from Dunfermiline (same as the Skids) Although they may of had one Geordie. Although they didnt really hit the big time till they shifted down south.

and I dont know if I really have part 3 in me, I may have to put the Bay City Rollers on it, and do we really want that?

Or, you may actually know this guy; my father has a tape of a Humphrey Littleton Jazz show that used to go out on Radio 2 on a friday night. It featured some guy from Scotland that moved to Chicago (I think) and he rose to prominence as blues bagpiper; now the strange thing was he only had one arm, and its really difficult to play the pipes with one arm, (I think he filled the bag with bellows between his knees) He used to play with a twelve fingered pianist, (go figure). Anyway; I cant remember his name.

He was bad, but kind of funny

Do you remember the fuss? E's are good E's are good!

The video to that song had Jerry Sadowitz in it. He was from Aberdeen with a really thick accent. Me and a friend saw him perform at a comedy club in London and I think we were the only people that were laughing as no one else could understand him

Best joke. The Jehovahs Witness visited someone in Dundee to tell them about the Kingdom of God, spent 2 hours teaching them basic arithmatic!
