why are people hating on the artist selection in mixes? just because you dislike a group, doesnt mean that person's choice of them fits their idea of a mix.. just rate it lower than normal.. dont say "what the fuck?!?! how can you like ____?" youre no better than anyone else here...

If it's a well put together tape but not to my taste i give +2 usually. the +5s are only for amazingly above-and-beyond exactly-my-style tapes.

i definitely don't talk trash on the artists people like. hell, i listen to stuff that is totally out there that i'm sure most people on here hate.

no, i was randomizing the mixtapes and kept seeing "whats up with death cab" or "whats up with modest mouse" or blah blah blah, you know.

and seriously, i dont like death cab, but there are mixes ive thought about putting them in or i'll see how they fit into other people's mixes (normally the sad mopey ones, but thats kind of the music.. yeah?)


and yes, alice. thats exactly what i do. if i dont know the bands ill try and find out the ones i do know and go from there. if nothing comes up, i dont rate.. i dont dodge

I see a lot of that, and sometimes I'm a willing participant (i.e. Tool). Sometimes I joke about that stuff, but I would never put anyone down for it. I'm not one to talk, you know?

I've honestly seen a few "this is music for my girlfriend/wife/significant other" mixes and I give them what they desserve, death cab or not. Sometimes it's applied in a good manner.

sure it should be all about mixtaping prowess, but i rarely come across mixtapes entirely of songs that i know and am familiar with. so it often comes down to recognizing artists that i really like. the catch is that i also recognize artists i can't stand.
i'm not trying to justify insulting comments (unless they're very funny); i'm just trying to explain why i think people leave them. it's a competitive collective, too, with the points and levels and all.

also also, you can vote neg or pos on a band's database page... just go -5 and voila, people know you hate that band! ive done it hundreds of times, its fun!

I'm a big fan of the 0 when rating. I find that way, I don't feel like an ass...AND i'm not falsely rating someone up =D.

I give lots of 0s too... I only give minuses if a) I'm in a bad mood or b) it isn't well-put-together in my eyes, there are artists that I don't like, no descriptions, or the tape is hating on something. Which it sometimes is.

I give plusses for artists that I like, or for good reasons to make mixtapes, concepts that I like, cover art that like... I give +5 for super special mixes that I would listen to over and over again, or for awesome awesome other components combined with awesome songs.

i like to hate on artists... but i usually dont give negative points for them (or give extra points for good artists to counteract) unless i think the mixtape was poorly thought/put together. but really, its only the internet... dont take the hating personally.
