I dont know if anyone even comes to the forums here anymore but just thought i would way in on my opinion of the new Portishead album.

It makes me say Hmmmmmmm.

Im not sure how i feel about it yet. It seems like a nice progression from their last album without changing it up completely. Im not sure though. Ive only listened to it once so far. There is some pretty cool shit on it.

Where did you get the album? I've only heard Machine Gun so far, and I'd like to hear the rest before the concert.

I have been living with the album for a few days now. It is good, there is a progression of sorts. I agree pretty much with Sledg, there is certainly some cool shit on it, but so far I am not sure it holds together as an album.

Indeed my friend, indeed. But considering I had braced myself for an embarrassment, I think it turned out well. I can only think of one instance where waiting 10 years between albums turned out well, and that was Mission of Burma.

I must say that on repeated plays I love it. What do you think of The Raccounteurs. I like it, don't love it yet.

its grown a bit on me too.

As far as the raconteurs goes, ive only listened to it once nothing grabbed me at all. Its disappointing because i thought the first album rocked (and rolled). im sure ill find some stuff i like on it when they pop up when im listening to my ipod on shuffle.

What about the New Black Keys?

I was scared when I heard Danger Mouse was producing (although, in my opinion, Danger Mouse has proven to be a great producer), because it didnt seem like a good fit and i was afraid it was gonna be a pop album. I think it turned out great though. I enjoy everything on there. Danger Mouse added some interesting elements to the Keys' sound, and nothing feels out of place to me. This is easily gonna be their most accessible and accepted album thus far. This album inspired me to check out the DM produced THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE QUEEN. He's building quite an impressive resume with the only thing that hes done that im not crazy about being Gnarls Barkley, although i like both people in the group outside of Gnarls. They are fun to watch live though.

Was that a tangent or what?

I like the Black Keys.
I can't honestly say I listen to them or DM enough to be able to compare to their older stuff, but I like what I've heard.
As for Gnarls Barkley, don't even get me started. The only song he's done that I like is that one about killing his girlfriend. And as for 'Crazy'... I've walked out of a restaurant because that song came on.

By God, I love this album. Sledg is right, it is accessible, but it still has that blurred edge sound that is one of their most endearing qaulities. 'I Got Mine' is this years 'Rag & Bone' as far as my obsessively playing one track is concerned.

I am listening to the new Gnarls Barkley album (The Odd Couple) at work right now. Im only 4 songs in but I can tell its about a 200% improvement on the first album. I kinda dig it. More straight-up soul, less whatever was going on on the previous one.

THE SWITCH AND THE SPUR on the new Raconteurs album-

Did those guys get stuck with just a Zappa cd to listen to during a tour or something?
