There are a lot of "users" that have created a profile and let it sit. For a WHILE. What do you think about having profiles removed from the system after a certain number of months go by with no activity? Otherwise, they just sit there, taking up space.

Maybe half a year of inactivity? I think that's more than enough time for people to (after getting bored of this place) go on with their empty and pointless lives before deciding to come back here because it's in their bloodstream now.
Or they don't come back and thus get deleted.

deleting users entirely is a little too much work and has unforeseen consequences...ie: if you delete a user, you have to delete all of their tags, etc so there are no broken links. You have to remove them from all point distribution, etc.
What about throwing them into like 'deactive' mode, where they still exist on the site, you can still go to their profile directly, but they will not show up in random searches and such.

I like that idea, personally. But give them some time, too. Maybe 6 months or so, like 0_0 said. You still want to be able to mark people down and write stupid comments/tags for them, but after a certain point, you just don't want to see them anymore.

to clarify, i found the second burn more entertaining and well put than the first, hence the several more "R"s than the first.

it is already being worked in, sort of... but, we aren't going to flat out delete users. Deleting them causes more problems than it solves. In order to remove them completely, you have to remove ALL references to the person...this either means deleting every tag/message/record of this person (what if the person that received that tag really liked it and didn't want it deleted?)...Or, it means that we can leave all their tags and messages, but we have to put a check in EVERY time we link to a user's profile that checks if the user has been deactivated in order to remove the hyperlink. The site doesn't need anymore overhead as it is. Deleting them would require custom code on the artist/album/track/moderation pages (to remove record of them adding or changing info), it would require a purge from all tagboards, forum posts (which could make some threads lose relevance, especially if the user is quoted), etc etc.
Instead, we can flag their profile with a big huge 'inactive', and keep them from being displayed in random searches, top lists, etc. This also has the added bonus of if the person comes back, their info isn't gone, they can just login and re-activate and everything is back to normal.
I know what I'm doing =P.
