i really dislike not having the actual album, either in record or cd format or cassette format. it really bugs me. it's convenient, but it bugs me.

Team Robot - Second Place
A special badge for the second-place winner of the amazing robots vs. monsters mixtape contest. Uncanny skills, precision mixing and laser vision truly makes them worthy of second. Robot rock.

sometimes it's 1) impossible or 2) very expensive.

I've gotten over it. Now I treat my actual CDs like crap. Pretty sure all my recent ones are in a shoebox in my trunk, most of which are probably in the incorrect case.

true, i agree. but for me, it takes away an important component... for me. when i used to come home from school, put on the one tape that i bought that month, and read every single 'thank you' and production credit, etc etc in the liner notes, i felt like i knew the artist. now, i have to admit, there are albums that i don't know what it'd look like if i saw the cover, or some where i don't even know the names of the songs. but at the same time, it opens up a whole new world of music discovery. so i guess i've got to take the good with the bad, for me.
anyway, how bout them dodgers?

The Bronze Badge
Wow, one of your mixes is doing swell in the ratings! But remember, Bob Dole did 'swell' in the primaries...

record collecting and mp3 collecting are like apples and oranges.
laser disc can be a pomegranate or something.

It makes searching for out-of-print CDs very difficult. I searched for "buy 11:11 regina spektor" in various ways and it came up with one result (eBay) and like 50 places to purchase the mp3s.

and that's cool because in the end, you get the music. trust me, i'm not against it. at all.
but as much as i can i'll go the record/cd (not so much tape anymore, but occasionally) route as opposed to the mp3 route. the album artwork and liner notes and everything contribute a lot to the overall experience for me.
