While the tags are lovely and fun, I think there should be a series of radio buttons or something that offer a variety of selections of what genre(s) the mixtape encompasses (rock, country, indie, etc.) as well as a few simplistic moods or situations (happy, sad, driving, dancing) to eventually allow us to search for a mix to make or suggestions for to fit a specific situation.
Because if I'm all sulky and brooding, I'd like to be able to quickly find what my fellow MTCers suggest listening to in that situation.

Yeah, this was supposed to be originally encompassed by the 'keywords'...however we never made a search function for mixes. This is definitely going to be one of the issues we address in the redesign. We might even allow other people to attach keywords to your mix, and then associate your mix with the most frequently mentioned keywords.

I think one of the big issues with labeling music in genres is the whole...people-don't-know- what-they're-talking-about thing. There is a whole lot of mislabelling in music all the time, and I'd hate to see people's ignorance tarnish this website, especially when it gets a bigger population of less elite people.

True, but I think having a user-based definition system is better than an abstract, hippie "concept" of musical genres, or lack thereof. "It just is what it IS, man," or "you can't put a label on us," won't fly when this site gets megabig. Streamlining this shit is key, and mega organization can facilitate higher mixtape access.
I think that the people who will use the system are the minority of the devoted who will have a much higher concept of musical labeling. /soapbox

Well, if people attach keywords to the mix, it would operate like the rest of the site does...based on level. People with a higher level have more say. So if you have some band like linkin park, and a level 5 person says 'ooh this is metal', then it gets 5 points for metal. Say I come up @ level 13 and am like 'THATS NOT METAL!' and mark it down, it's metal score drops to -8. I can then be like crap + 13.
