An idea for 2.0:

Similar to audiobiography, have an area for users to submit stories of mixtapes, such as when they tested a new mix on an unsuspecting audience, or how their friends reacted when they played a mix made by another MTC member.

I somehow volunteered to make a mix for my company's annual banquet tonight, which should be interesting considering almost everyone here is either very conservative or Mexican, and I am neither of those. I blended elements of everything into something I'm hoping will go over well.

Thusly, this idea was born.

How did the mix go? How was it received?

Despite the fact that TEAM ROBOT was crushed like a Pabst can at a frat party by the might claws of TEAM MONSTER, you are still deserving of a badge... Loser.

Could you post the mix here, I would love to see it. I like the idea of creating a mix right out of the comfort zone.

I honestly don't think many people noticed the mix. At least from what I could tell. I had made a slideshow of photos I had taken around work, as well as old baby photos that I restored, so that captured the majority of people's attention. That and the scrumptious food and the possibility of winning a plasma TV. I didn't win. :(

But since you asked so nicely, here's the track list. It's not necessarily out of MY comfort zone considering I didn't download anything new for it, plus I didn't want to use too much that was unfamiliar to the audience. Like I said, a lot of these tracks have appeared in previous mixes of mine.

1. Malaguena Salerosa by Chingon
2. Sir Duke by Stevie Wonder
3. Black Magic Woman by Santana
4. You Love Me by Devotchka
5. Living Proof by Cat Power
6. Let's Stay Together by Al Green
7. The Way You Look Tonight by Frank Sinatra
8. Si Se Calla El Cantor by Mirah & the Black Cat Orchestra
9. The Girl from Ipanema by Astrud Gilberto
10. The Time We Lost Our Way (ft. Loulou) by Thievery Corporation
11. Son of a Preacher Man by Dusty Springfield
12. Moorea by Gipsy Kings
13. Whatever Lola Wants by Ella Fitzgerald
14. Tout Doucement by Feist
15. Some Unholy War by Amy Winehouse
16. Cancion Del Mariachi by Los Lobos
17. Amado Mio by Pink Martini
18. At Last by Etta James
19. Flowers in December by Mazzy Star
20. Dreams of Spain by Charo

I like that as a mix. Thanks for letting us see it. I am organizing a small blues festival here in Porterville, a fund raiser for the local theatre here, and you can imagine that one thing I am taking great care about is the mix cd that I will make for before the show and at the interval. Most of the people attending will not be familiar with the blues, and the age range will span from the very young to the very old. I would like the pre show music to draw them in somewhat, although I know they will probably ignore it for the most part. Looking at your mix, I think 'At Last' might feature in my one as well!

Wow, one of your mixes is doing swell in the ratings! But remember, Bob Dole did 'swell' in the primaries...

To me, the pre-show music is almost as important as the band itself. When I went to see Bob Dylan (amazing) they played bluegrass bands I'd never heard of, and probably will never hear again (sadly). Same with the Raconteurs, but with garage rock from the 60's and 70's.

Happy Halloween 2007! In celebration of this event, here is a recipe to make your very own candy corn:

Combine 1 cup of razor blades, 2 cups of clown tears and 3/4 tablespoon spider eggs in a pan and bring to a boil stirring constantly. Stir occasionally. Remove from heat and add 2 cups hemlock and 3 ounces of fish oil. Stir until cool enough to handle. Shape and distribute.

Trick or treat!

I MADE A TAPE FOR THE FIRST BOY I EVER DATED (ABOUT 8 MONTHS AGO) AND I DON'T THINK HE REALLY GOT IT...
I MEAN, A MIXTAPE IS HUGE GESTURE!
NEEDLESS TO SAY, WE DIDN'T GO OUT AGAIN.

I MAKE MIXTAPES FOR MY BEST FRIEND ALL THE TIME BECAUSE SHE ONLY HAS A CASSETTE PLAYER IN HER CAR. SHE LOVES THEM. SOMETIMES I EVEN WRITE SONGS FOR HER AND RECORD THEM AND PUT THEM ON THE TAPES.
