I completely agree about the vocals. The levels are demo quality and Billy seems more nasal-y than ever. The strange harmonization he acquired during Zwan is still there. Booooooo. Thank god Jimmy doesn't hate him like everyone else does. He keeps that ship afloat.
As for album art, it's fairly uninspired and I'd even say cliche. Like it was a reject from Green Day's American Idiot.

Sadly, the "I'm Billy Corgan and can do whatever I want and make million dollars!" mentality (which personally seemed to be the approach when Zwan came around) still doesn't work, even when he calls it "Smashing Pumpkins".
Working at a radio station we've had this song for a while now however, we've just now started airing it... Anyway, I listened to it probably over a dozen times thinking maybe this was a pre-mastered version and we'd probably get a letter from the label saying don't air it... Yeah, that letter never came, which then makes me believe this is it...
The vocal melody is just kind of awkward in my opinion. The guitar solo is way over indulgent, and the mix sounds like crap. Crunchy guitars are good for it to sound hard and driving, which they did get down, but the vocals are overly compressed and it sounds like they used "auto-tune" all over the place where Billy's pitch might have been off.
Anyway, I listened to it as many times as I did because I did want to like, I wanted the "new" Pumpkins to sound like the old Pumpkins... Alas, it didn't do it for me...

Well put. The vocals are really way too hot. I will say that Corgan's guitar tone still gives me goosebumps, but damn, it's not what I wanted.
Still, I have to admit, it's better than what I expected. We'll see how this all turns out.

Thanks for the link, by the way.

You know, even though I haven't heard the entire album, the seeming complete slant toward a "fuck you American politics" thing really annoys me. The album name Zeitgeist, paired with the image of a Statue of Liberty sinking into a blood-red ocean. Song names like "United States" "For God and Country" and "Doomsday Clock".
I mean, I agree more than most, I'm liberal to the core, but it seems to be such a goddamned easy shot to take. Again, refer to my uninspired comment above.
Maybe I'm just a stubborn alt mid-90s fan with penchant to whine and too much time on my hands.
