Compared side by side with other "cheap" beers, it's definitely the tastiest. And when you're not in a mood for stinky microbrews because you're pounding down as much as you can, PBR is the way to fly.
Also, because hipsters think it's soooooooo cool.
And Portland was the base of the PBR revivial. We consume more PBR than anyone else in the nation. Which I guess is a little contradictory to the whole elite/hipster thing.

after comparing prices several times (as a good college student should) pbr man-cans were found to have the cheapest dollar per ounce value of any other beer around. that combined with having the least offensive taste of water-beers lead me to love the blue ribbon.
