description:
I hate mornings. Probably because I'm a heavy drinker, and I don't really take good care of my body. I'm known to sleep through earthquakes, blaring alarm clocks, and college midterms, and I consider 10am an ungodly hour. I've made many loud, wake-up mixes, and they work quite well. I believe I'll use this one tomorrow. It's not so much morning-themed, although some songs refer to waking up and such, but more a stab at changing my physical and psychological reaction toward waking up into a pleasant, musical experience in "real time" as follows....
1: Alarm goes off, one arm surfaces from beneath the covers to press "play."
2-6: Songs to play while getting motivation to put feet on floor, making coffee, doing my daily puzzles in the Oregonian and reading the articles that interest me.
7-13: Songs to play during the realization that I've wasted too much time dawdling and need to get my sorry ass in gear. I call it "power showering."
14-16: Songs for the drive to work and get in the mindset of the calm, cool, collected saleswoman that I am. Oh yes.

Track 5 from Philosophy: The Best of Bill Hicks
Length: 00:05:31 Year: 2001 |
|
Track Description:
Opening with spoken-word may be a stretch, but listening to Hicks' rants give me a somewhat perverse glimmer of hope: there are people out there with attitudes akin to my own. Although he is dead, and he did quit smoking later in his career... oh well. In short, this helps me ease the covers from over my face in the morning. SHOW LESS

Track 9 from Life on Other Planets
Length: 00:02:29 Year: 2002 |

Track Description:
Normally, I don't listen to a lot of Supergrass; however, during times that I need to be awake (mornings, late night driving, etc.), I find myself pawing through my CDs, looking for them. This song is so silly and cheesey, I may get out of bed simply to skip to the next track about half-way through. SHOW LESS

Track Description:
When I need something to kick me in the ass, this song does exactly that. I struggled between this and "Can't Stop Talking" for several moments... I decided on "Humans" because it's a lot easier to jump around to and sing the chorus... and that's what's needed when I'm getting ready to go to work. SHOW LESS
