Oh, oh. Neutral Milk Hotel are kind of like the kings of independent music. Their album In The Aeroplane Over The Sea is an epic, beautiful, almost flawless album that should be a staple of any music lover's collection. Really, just type it into google and you can see the kinds of effects that it has had on the music scene. On Avery Island is their other album, and it is also good, but not nearly as good as ITAOTS. As for a description of their music....they're lo-fi, warbly, distorted, layered...there are bagpipes and one-note pianos and crazy-ass instruments...the lyrics are beautiful, haunting, and meaningful...you should really check it out.
