So, I know some of you have heard it. What say you?

I think it's totally underwhelming, a bit embarrassing but still has a few 'hell yes' moments. Plus, Corgan's uber-processed guitar tone gives me a halfie.

I think it's sad, like Muhammad Ali continuing to fight after his prime, chasing after greatness that escaped him long ago, oh and thier sound has parkinson's. I'm not trying to be a dick, I'm trying to be honest. I love the smahing pumpkins (8 years ago).

I'm actually buying it tomorrow. Review to follow.

One thing I will say is impressive about their comeback is their multimedia promotions. They've used some innovative methods to get the word out and incorporate the fans. Their official site allows anyone and everyone to upload videos and pics from shows and appearances. They had fans create and vote on album art, weekly downloads, and they themselves leaked tour DVD material already... They've fully embraced the user-centric interwebz.

Erm, yes? I have no idea about this. Isn't it just the album art in different colors? Is the track listing different?

Also, if that's the case, it IS the Pumpkins. Half of their catalog consists of b-sides. They released a giant double album. Leave it to Corgan to record a glut of extra material.

Yeah, I didn't know that there were 3 versions of Zeitgeist distributed through various major retailers...that makes me hate the album even more.

Alright alright, I didn't hate it. I enjoyed tracks 1-3 well enough, and if "starz" had different lyrics it'd be great. Overall though, I agree that this is an underwhelming release. I feel like we shouldn't get too upset about it though, cuz the pumpkins haven't made music together in awhile. And 2007 has been suuuuch a good year for new albums - Arcade Fire, White Stripes, The National (to name a few!) - we've been spoiled. Also, there's nothing new in Zeitgeist. It makes me feel like it was secretly made in the 90s, but no one ever heard about it, and now it's out for everyone to hear. It doesn't sound like music made in this century, do you know what I mean?

(hi guys, I'm Kris, and this is my first post...didn't think it'd end up being this long. I hope it doesn't get ignored just cuz I'm a n00b. :P)

Zeitgeist was disappointing, I wrote this blog on myspace before the album came out i thought i'd post it here....

So.... the pumpkins are back, i dont know what to think ......

they're album seems like its just gona be one step over from Machina, which i guess is good.....that album was awesome ..and tarantula sounds great.....

but when i think of the pumpkins, i think of their early stuff.....gish to pisces etc.....it was like nothing ever before and there has never been anything close to it. and to me they were perfect, like 100% Perfect.
Imagine a little bag thats shaped like a pumpkin, their albums all fit into this bag perfectly and its just the greatest thing in the world, its orange and pumpkin shaped!!!! something you want to sleep besides.

But now they're makin more albums and its not all gonna fit. and its become uncomfortable cos all the cd's are going over the bed and now you cant sleep.

- another explanation is imagine a cake...one side is chocolate, one side is strawberry, when u feel like chocolate you eat that side- and that side is like gish to pisces. but when you feel like eating strawberry you eat that side and it is mellon collie to machina. Now....you can mix strawberry and chocolate, that is the greatest thing. Have you ever dipped strawberries into chocolate sauce? well...its pretty good.
But my point is.... billy's new flavour is mint and its unbalancing the ying and yang of the cake. it would probably taste pretty good but only weirdos would eat it.

Also where is D'arcy and James! anyway i guess it doesnt matter, the Cure only have robert smith left of the orignal members.but it still makes me sad.

So why do it? Bringing back the smashing pumpkins is like editing the mona lisa. All of the members arent even in, the pumpkins era was the 90's....let it be left as a sweet dream. In saying all that i still cant wait for the new album...i hope they tour australia and i hope i dont miss out on a ticket cos a bunch of dicks buy them

peace.

this pic may help you understand....

After listening to the album quite a few times now, I have to say that there are good parts, there are numerous mediocre parts, and a couple that make me cringe. Before the album came out I fully accepted that they can never reach their zenith of the mid-90s, but as a kid who began to love music because of them, I had a glimmer of hope that it'd surprise me.

'Tarantula' is probably the worst track on the album, and was a horrible choice at lead singles. Scatterbrained, shitastic vocals, and a mishmash of decent parts that just don't flow together well. 'Doomsday Clock' would have been an excellent choice. I'm a fan of the wall of crunchy guitar that comes in at the beginning.

'Starz' with a Z is probably the worst song name ever. I agree with delightly in that it would be better if the lyrics weren't so damned hokey.

The last half of 'United States' is killer.

'Bleeding the Orchid' sounds like an emo euphemism for masturbation.

'That's the Way (My Love Is)' is growing on me.

Jimmy Chamberlin is still a phenomenal drummer.

The intro for '7 Shades of Black' sounds a lot like the track they did for the (horrible!) Batman & Robin movie.

As for James and D'Arcy (or even Melissa) being missing, well... Corgan DID record the majority of Siamese Dream without them. Back then it was primarily just him and Jimmy. While I'm all about the Iha being involved (D'Arcy is pretty much going nowhere), the dynamic hasn't changed that much. I don't think that has much impact over this incarnation of the Pumpkins.

I have a bazillion other thoughts on the album, but rather than run through them all, I'll just say: it's still in rotation in my car. And I'm seeing them play in September.

2000s TSP respects and adheres to the cathlolic dominated ideal that charlie's still somewhere in space and we've all gota be looking pretty mod for when he comes back. or boy, will h be supper pissed.
