Derhay has requested a point reset. We can do this. The downside is that everyone may feel the tremors of doing so, since the point system is delicate. By our calculations, it shouldn't be much.

What say y'all -- should we let someone 'reset'?

It will bump down anything he's rated because higher ranked users have a higher point effect when they judge your mixes/profile. So because he's going back to 0 it will alter your mix points. Am I making sense? I don't even know if what I'm saying is true. I personally don't think it matters if our points fluctuate a bit, but...

Is this a bad reset or a good reset? Why would someone want to reset?

Whoa, do higher ranked users have higher point effect when it comes to mix rating? That's sick.

Maybe he couldn't handle all the pressure and fame that comes with being number 1 and after stints in and out of rehab, he was finally being arrested for drunk driving. It was the straw that broke the mixtaper's back, and now he must forgo all the things that tempted him into such an exorbitant lifestyle. Well, minus the drugs and parties and clingers-on, naturally.

Okay, after being coached for hours on end by my agent, I am ready to tell the collective why I want a point reduction...

First, the point reduction is a request from my doctor because of my lower back problems. No. Wait. Wrong reduction problem. My moobs are a whole other issue.

I'll gather my thoughts and will return with a statement later.

Yes, galaxiepi, I can't handle the pressure. The only reason I'm in the #1 spot again is because of a badge I didn't gun for. 1,000 people have looked at my profile and I received a badge for it. Sorry, sledgbrainerd. (explanation for "reset" to follow)

My biggest concern, which isn't great (see: silly), is the collective's perception of the points I've "earned". What is the perception of the any member with the most points at MTC?

A year ago, I entered in as many album tracks as I did to chase badges that didn't exist. For as random as some of the badges rewarded were, I thought I would have earned something for the effort adding to the musical data. I thought there might be a 5,000th track entered badge, there isn't. So, I quit hunting badges.

When there was talk about MTC mark 2 and the new point system for entering tracks, I took it personally. I know the focus is more on the mixes and not earning points the way I did, but I feel like a cheater head head for the nearly 13,000 points I have for track information.

Comparing sledg's point to mine, I found that I have received 8,500 more points from entering in tracks than sledg, but he has rated more here than me by 2,300 points. Is there a right way and a wrong way to earn points? Knowing what the collecive perception is regarding points will help me out.

I've held off adding info, rating and entering new mixes because I wanted sledgbrainerd to pass me and stay at the top spot. I hope he stays there until someone else bumps him off the hill.

Contributing tracks to the database, for me, is fun. If there is no point reduction, maybe I could get some kind of clearance to enter information with no point reward? Would that rob someone of points that would like to enter in the same information?

I miss being more active in the collective, but I don't want to distance myself again pointwise. I admit that I didn't consider what a point reduction would do to the fifty four people I've rated, and I'm just now considering what the perception could be if I received the point reduction and then end up back in the Top-20.

To put things is perspective, I have more points from entering in music data than shortbus, the number twenty user, has total. I'm not bragging, I have mixed feeling about the points I have. With the way the database has grown over the last year, I don't see myself earning that many points again, especially if the reward system changes in the new version.

I think I would like to restart at 1,000 points total, and work my way up and have fun again, but not with the intent of being number one.

The responses here will help me know if this is an okay decision with the rest of you. Thanks for your time and replies, derhay

Well, if thats what you want. I don't care, but if I had to choose, I would say that you should just keep your points and keep on racking them up for entering the tracks. I dont think its cheating at all and the whole reason for having points system was to provide people a motivation to add to our database.

It doesn't necessarily bother me, but I think it's a lot of work that would go unrecognized. Don't let your badge disappointment get to you.
One thing I am unclear of is what the perception of Derhay is. I personally don't think he's any different than someone who makes a lot of mixes to get points or someone who refers a lot of people (who don't end up staying here) to get points. I used to wonder about the adding tracks thing myself, but it really was a vice of mine for awhile so I can relate somehow. Everyone has their own thing.

Dear Derhay,

I don't know what everyone else thinks but I'm really not all that concerned with how many points someone has or how they got them.

Adding all that music into the database is something you should be proud of. You are certainly not a 'cheater' in my eyes for getting to #1 by adding music. That just shows that you're an active member in all areas.

Wear your points with pride I say. But if you want to reset, that's fine by me too.

I agree with everything the last few people have said. You put in a ton of time adding tracks to our database, which only makes the entire site's purpose of making mixtapes that much easier.

Besides, I heard sledg got the majority of his points, badges and contest winnings through explicit favors.
