description:
Sometimes you need music, a soundtrack to your life. If you look at something with music, it can seem completely different to you and far more memorable. I like to take walks a lot whenever I'm feeling a particularly strong emotion. It doesn't really matter what the emotion is, just that it's strong.
This is a mix of some of the songs I have the strongest memories to along my walks.

Track 1 from The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place
Length: 00:09:33 Year: 2003 |
|
Track Description:
When I was in the process of accidentally breaking someone's heart, I took a guilty walk around my town. It was one of those situations you think about so much that you eventually become detatched from it. That situation combined with this song on that very walk, shaped one of my most personal short film ideas. SHOW LESS

Track 3 from Colour the Small One
Length: 00:04:34 Year: 2005 |

Track Description:
As a child, I used to go with my Granny down to the lake where she had a bench. We called it the Secret Hiding Place. She used to read me stories from when she was a child, like The Twins and Tabiffa. I walked down there for the first time in a long, long time and found the stones to be covered in moss and grass. The bench was old, weathered and broken. All the trees were hanging down into the small clearing making the view of the lake, once perfect, seem ugly. The water still lapped up against the rocks the same way, but I couldn't touch it because there were thorns blocking my way. I tried to sit and I tried to appreciate but I haven't been there since. Track Description:
I went on a road trip about a year and a half ago and I was in this town I'd never been in. I really, more than anything, wanted time to think about all the things I thought were so important at the time- so I decided to go for a walk. I ended up at a park, completely void of children as it was one of those gray days where the air is so heavy with early spring moisture. I ended up on the swing set, and began to swing. I can't remember a time when I've felt more like I was in the exact right place than in that moment. And I have no idea why. SHOW LESS

Length: 00:02:55 Year: 2004 |
|
Track Description:
Pieces of crap can look suddenly gorgeous to music. For 4 years I walked the same route to the bus for school. For some reason, one summer I came to a spot along that same route and I found myself completely amazed by this one piece of metal. It was holding some piece of equipment up with huge bolts and rusty wires entangled around it. I went back to that spot and took a picture. To be honest, I've never looked at that piece of rusty crap again, but to this day, that picture is one of my favourites in the whole world. SHOW LESS

Track 1 from Ephemeral
Length: 00:06:47 Year: 2005 |
|
Track Description:
I often get caught up in my own head and it almost always leads to a walk. I used to get so angry because I just couldn't comprehend space and I knew I never would be able to. I would try so hard to figure it out, but it's so impossible to figure out because how can something just not end or be nothing. I would get so frustrated. Then someone said "Everyone always thinks about how infinitely big everything, but no one ever stops and thinks how infinitely small it is." And then my head imploded. SHOW LESS

Length: 00:11:43 Year: 2005 |
|
Track Description:
My grandmother is a psycho and one of my aunts vowed never to give me a christmas present again and has followed through. I don't like to hang around the family cottage when I have the chance to escape. I hitched a ride into town with my parents who were going to a funeral and started to walk and ended up in my favourite park in the world. I climbed the steepest bridge I've ever seen, and then like some cheesy teenage novel, I carved my name in a park bench with a safety pin. SHOW LESS

Track Description:
If you've ever been the catalyst to someone's insanity, it makes you think about a lot of things. I moreso found myself angry. Angry at being blamed for someone else being over dramatic and childish. So, in the name of hypocrisy and double standards, I broke a flower pot in that anger. SHOW LESS

Track Description:
It was on one walk that I took that I noticed that it's pretty much impossible to see a star come out. You can notice them all appearing, but I stared at one spot in the sky until the whole think was black and dotted with specks but not one of them was I able to witness come to life. I found that so disappointing that I just lay on the grass, but as the night progressed, the bats came out and flew all around above me in these wonderful figure eight patterns. It was quite lovely. Track 5 from Apollo
Length: 00:04:25 Year: 1983 |
|
Track Description:
I had to walk around campus to do all these various school related tasks, so naturally I brought music. As I made my way to the libraray I saw, in the courtyard, these newspapers fluttering around in the wind. As cliche as it was, they were quite obviously dancing with each other in the light which filtered down onto the cement, enhancing the dust being tossed into the air with the newspapers. I lost my place in line because of it. SHOW LESS
