On Friday my father's picking my brother up from the airport (he's taking "artsy" classes at a university in Pennsylvania). Usually we listen to the music on the radio, but this time I plan to take advantage of the car's tape deck.
Side A, or "PHL → OAK", is for the ride to the airport. It's nearing twilight, pretty hot for a summer night in the San Francisco Bay Area, and the tape runs its course. This mix is forty-five minutes long because I am using a ninety minute audio cassette tape, and if there are two sides to an audio cassette tape and the recording time is split equally on each side, then how much time will there be for one side of the tape? (Word problems were never my forte either, so I'll even do the next step for you: 90 ÷ 2 = ?)
Side B, or "OAK → PHL", is for the ride from the airport, with overcaffeinated brother in tow. That side probably won't make it onto the Mixtape Collective, as it is peppered with classics by Journey, AC/DC, and Dragon Force.
This mix is for me. Oh, and for my brother. He's pretty OK.

Bad Brains, covered by Frusciante. I don't think my dad's going to go for this one. At least it's a pretty short track (well, relatively - it's the shortest song on this mix anyways). SHOW LESS

Track 12 from Electric Ladyland
Length: 00:08:52 Year: 1968 |

Track Description:
The whole "Electric Ladyland" album reminds me of last Halloween, when I got a (rather lengthy) ride from a total stranger. Three of my friends and I were cramped in the back of a compact car, and we were just tripping out to it. Listening to this song when the weather's nice and listening to this song when it isn't are two different things altogether. SHOW LESS

Track Description:
I detest math rock, or at least the idea of it, plain and simple. The formula "A times B times C equals X" should never, never, never be used to write a song. And then I realize that most songs written by good math rock bands are hella good and I should quit complaining. There are no bad genres, only bad artists, or something. SHOW LESS

Track Description:
You know what? Pavement wrote songs. Forgive me for stating the obvious, but I'll be damned if they weren't really songs, you know what I mean? It wasn't about hooks or lyrics or virtuosity. It was about songs. Forgive me, a second time, for sounding like an idiot. SHOW LESS

Track Description:
Comprising the final side of Blonde on Blonde, and this mixtape, is Bob Dylan's best song ever. Or at least that's what he thinks. I'm still banking on "Talkin' Hava Nagila Blues," but we're all entitled to our own opinions. Goodnight. SHOW LESS
