description:
Guitar is my pasion. This is about some of the gu8itar work that truly floats my boat. It might be an instrumental, a solo that helps define a song, or some subtle background work. anyway, here are some of my favourite guitar bits. There is no getting round it. I am an old fart, so there is much old fart music here, and I offer no excuses. This is music I love, and I make no apology for it.

Track Description:
I first heard this as a small boy and it drew me in even then. Otherworldly guitar, drifting and beautiful.I think it was recorded around 1954, still early years for solid body electric guitars. An astonishing record, even now.

Track 1 from 25 Greatest Hits
Length: 00:02:22
Year: 0000
Track Description:
Britain did not make too many original contributions to teh first age of rock and roll. I can really think of only two records worth mentioning. One was "Move It" by Cliff Richard and The Shadows, and the other is this gem from 1959. Everything about this recording is right. The main guitar riff, the solo, it is simple but lovely. Later covers of the song by The Guess WHo and The Who were good, but this is the diamond.

Track Description:
If Chuck Berry is a man of two riffs, I guess this is the other one! the non Johnny B-Goode one. I just like the lazy feel of this, the chiming quality of the guitar. Funny thing about guitars. I do like the sound they make.

A badly recorded live track from Eric Clapton's short stint with Mayall, but the best example I have heard of Clapton building a solo with true passion. This has almost nothing to do with teh T-Bone original apart from the title. Essential!

I think SRV is one of those American artists who is revered in his own state and the rest of the world, but not for some reason the rest of the US. Soon after he died his brother did a tour supporting Clapton in the UK. People came out just to pay homage to the brother of SRV. Stevie Ray was simply one of the greatest electric guitarists ever. Some have technique, some have feel, some have originality. He could play in anyone else's style and be convincing ( Hendrix, Albert Collins, T-Bone Walker for example) he was a great feel player, and he did have that gut crunching sound that was all his own. He is in my top three!
