I was a big Steve Irwin fan. I'm a big animal nut in the first place, and his over-the-top enthusiasm and reckless-yet-skilled handling of some of the world's most dangerous creatures were always entertaining sights to behold. He was an amazing conservationist and educated people of all ages about endangered and relatively unknown species... his sudden passing is truly a sad event. Plus, who dies by getting stabbed in the fucking heart by a stingray? Only the Crocodile Hunter, man.

This mix is an emotional story arc of the cuckhold's story in an unfaithful relationship. It begins with suspiscion, jealousy, anger, denial, forced accpetance, then rings true with depression and longing, and tapers out with numbness and a distant resentment. All these emotions are pieces of glittering mica in the jagged conglomerate that can be labeled as "sadness".

Finally! I finished this behemoth. I have about 3 unfinished branches off of this mix and gave myself a lovely headache whittling it down and stretching it out to this. Overall? I dig it. It constitutes a lovely hour of music. And that's what matters, right?

iHome Mixtape Battle. Me vs. TheLucc. We both have this ever-impressive alarm clock stereo for our iPods. We both use it as a means of waking up to whatever daily drudgery lay ahead, and the song choice is key in starting the day off right. The difference? My song choices are better. Or at least I'd like to think so.
The first 30 seconds are all-important, especially when hitting the snooze button. I don't like to be jarred awake, so something that gradually amplifies is ideal.
And yes, the artwork is my bedroom, complete with my beloved iHome. If they could sponsor me, that'd be super.

I spend my weekends working in a wine tasting room. It's 6 hours of being bored, with the occasional couple or group coming in to parttake in the vino while I toss out flowery adjectives describing said vino. I need music that won't offend old people, yet will keep me somewhat entertained. Thus this mix was born. Mostly old school, mellow, feel good hits, with a smattering of newer artists that don't offend the palate. Fermented 75% in French oak barrels, 25% in steel barrels, so it gives a soft mouthfeel with a surprising crispness at the edges.

This might be my strangest mix yet, but I think the songs and artists blend pretty well to evoke the feeling of driving through a neverending desert in the middle of a blazing summer. Rock driven, spanish influenced, it's like the continuation of a Tarantino soundtrack. But prettier.

It's a summer dedication to camping... silly, a little more organic, slightly reminiscient... I always prefer my mixes to taper out at the end, and this mix is a perfect example. It starts out with uptempo, fun, energetic tunes and eventually settles down for the night with some acoustic, mellow, in-a-daze-staring-at-the-campfi re-wishing-the-summer-never-ends tracks. In fact I'm taking it camping this weekend.

Yeah, the farmer is evaluating the soil in his hands. I just like to imagine stupid stuff about things because it is easier than dealing with everyday realities. The realities here are that the local economy is all but destroyed for local farmers and farm workers because of the recent freezing weather. The citrus crop has failed and that means real hardship for the folks round here. This is a poor and depressed area at the best ofn times, but now....

I know what you mean about Jonny Lang, but I thought it was important to include what some of the mainstream people had done with Robert Johnson music. I can't stand lang, but I thought it worked in the context of the mixtape. I also thought that something well known like Cream's Crossroads should be in because it probably did more to make Johnson's name well known that any other recording.

About song 10 I like to have an intermission, usually an instrumental or something, but I had to take it out because the mixtape was 80:30 and wouldn't fit. I was pretty sad. That DM song is more of an opener, I should have used another. But... that's my story. Even a 1 minute instrumental can throw off the entire mix.

I first have to convert the mp3's to wav files, or if we're talking cds, then i can rip directly to wav. Then using a wav editor i have to copy and paste each song onto the end of the previous one. Then i convert the whole file back to mp3.

I think Bologna may have been the best of Italy that I saw. We used to go there on the weekends, and I could just walk around all night in that city and not need anything but the city itself, just to look at it.
I never went Macerata, though. Rimini, Firenze, Napoli, Roma, Venice, Milan (for about an hour), Bologna...but no Macerata. How was that?
