NOTE: Last week I lost a significant chunk of my story, which took all the wind out of my sails. In order to at least get my mix up, you'll notice that halfway through the mix/story, my descriptions change. I no longer have the actual story. Instead, I've opted to simply explain where the story WOULD be if I still had it. Hopefully you'll understand and still see where I was going with this.

Earlier Note: You will get the most out of this mix if you listen to it at night and mentally enter into this world. First look at the title of each song, and then the overall sequence of songs. The feel of each song contributes to each scene. Picture the chapters in your head. Our main character is Bram Driggers. The night is blue.

It has been many years since the first robot uprising. For decades, humans and robots had lived side-by-side, working together in unison. Government agencies like the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) continued to fund next-generation robotics research. With financial backing from the world's largest corporations, these advanced Uber-Bots became staples in our society, even holding leadership positions in the corporate and government realms.

Time progressed and both human and robot technology became more advanced. The robots (now forming the loose foundations of what is today known as the Disparate Robata Chrystalline Emirates) grew intolerant of the human race's inherent inefficiency. As humans continued to make detrimental decisions that compromised the stability of their environment, the robots’ logical programming systems detected faulty problem-solving techniques and mobilized to override the human race. After forcefully gaining control of the federal government, the robot violence subsided. A so-called peace treaty was issued by the robot council, and a pact between elite robot and human leaders was made. But the damage to the human way of life was done. Many had been forced to leave their homes. Others were silently kidnapped in the night, taken to robot labs and transformed into mutant human-robot hybrids. Whole sections of cities, deemed unnecessary and useless by the DRCE, were abandoned by humans and robots alike.

Although quality of life for most humans had decreased significantly, overall violence and frequency of robot attacks had also decreased, leaving many content with this marginal existence. Others, however, were not content. An underground movement slowly began to take shape; a resistance made up of humans and sympathetic robo-human hybrids. They began using the desolate city sections to mobilize and recruit new members. Hidden safe houses and bunkers were constructed across the land. Although very limited and reserved for the most dire circumstances, or the right price, black market Uber-Bot weapon technology became available via the underground network of Revolution supporters.

Track 10 from Hard Hat Area
Length: 00:04:31
Year: 2001
Track Description:
It was on this night that everything changed. Bram had just put his infant son to sleep in the nursery upstairs and walked across the hallway to the bedroom, ready for a good night’s sleep. Before the RU1 (Robot Uprising 1) many moons ago, Bram had owned his own recording studio in the heart of the city. Most of the top human and robot musicians had recorded there at one time or another. Once the DRCE was established, however, they took control of the recording industry and destroyed all studios that didn’t conform to their heavy-handed guidelines. Bram took up an assembly line position at Okalakoo 500-B, a leading manufacturer of polyprojutecon intelli-chips used in navigational sensors. The pay was decent for a robot-owned company. His wife Gabriella was more fortunate. She was an analyst for a financial programming firm and worked for a robo-human boss with an affinity for residents of the Grid23 section of the city, which they were fortunate to still have a house in.

Gabriella was out of town on business this night. As Bram placed the baby monitor on the dresser and climbed into bed, a strange feeling crept over his skin. He looked out the window and swore he saw a brief flash of light. He stared at the dark sky. Nothing. It had rained the last two nights, so maybe there were lightning storms in the distance. Still, something didn’t seem right. As part of the underground Revolution, he had installed a bioimplantable physiological sensor in his motor cortex, just above his right ear, and it was sending him feelings that made him uneasy. He laid on his side, staring out the bedroom door, across the hall into his son’s nursery, until his eyes became too heavy to stay open. Slowly... he drifted... to... sleep...

Track 15 from The Night We Called It A Day
Length: 00:03:55
Year: 2001
Track Description:
“Honey, wake up. I’m here.” Gabriella’s soft voice whispered across his ears. Her hair blew lightly in the gentle breeze. “None of it matters. If tomorrow comes and you have to wake without me... just make sure it’s the life in me that you miss.”

Bram jolted out of his sleep. The vague mist of his nightmare dissipating. He had only been asleep for three minutes and fifty-five seconds. His first instinct was to call his wife. But as his mind-fog cleared, he rationalized that a hot bowl of soup would do. He grabbed the baby monitor and peeked into the nursery on his way down to the kitchen. He placed the monitor on the kitchen table and haphazardly filled a bowl with the last of the leftover soup, punching ‘time-1-3-0-start.’

Length: 00:02:18
Year: 1997
Track Description:
BEEEEEEEEEP... the microwave sounded. Instead of counting down the minute thirty, the digital display blinked, “Warning, warning, warning.” Another flash of light coming from the living room windows caught the corner of his eye. He turned back to the microwave and as he moved closer to examine the display, the bowl inside exploded like a grenade, causing him to fall backwards, the small of his back meeting the oven door behind him. The stove display blinked “Warning, warning!” He staggered forward. Ice pellets spewed like bullets from the dispenser in the fridge. He yanked the nearest plug from an electric socket, but it was no use. The appliances had been fitted by a robot government mandate with internal Smart-batteries and efficient generators that would keep them running without electricity. RU2 had begun.

Track Description:
The appliances suddenly stopped. Everything became silent. Bram felt a presence. He squinted to see outside the front windows. A light breeze caused the tree branches to sway back and forth. In the moonlight he could see shadows descending into the streets and onto his lawn. He ducked to the floor, turning his gaze to the kitchen window to his left. He knew instantly that the peace treaty had been broken. A faint crackle of the baby monitor broke the disturbing silence. “Come and get it” a mockingly childish voice taunted from the speaker. No...

Track 10 from Anticon Presents: Music for the Advancement of Hip Hop
Length: 00:05:25
Year: 1999
Track Description:
A loud crash was heard from upstairs. Bram immediately took off and sprinted for the nursery, screaming at the top of his lungs. “NOOOOOOOO!” Explosions burst from the outside city streets. Flashes of light filled the night sky. As he rounded the nursery door, he caught a glimpse of a Synthetic Aperture Bounty Hunter exiting the destroyed window. He glanced quickly at the crib. It was empty. As he lunged toward the window, a second Bounty Hunter android came crashing into the room, knocking Bram on his back. He knew he had no chance of fighting hand-to-hand. Every robot is designed for a purpose. The one that had just hurled itself at him had been designed to kill. His best chance of survival, and of saving his son, was to run. He scrambled to his feet and as he pivoted into the hallway, he flipped on the nursery light switch. He knew that vision sensors could be momentarily confused by sudden changes in lighting conditions. It wouldn’t solve his problem, but it’d buy him a few seconds. He sprinted for the front door, barely avoiding a stray laser blast from the sidewalk. Outside it was utter chaos. Humans were scrambling in the street, small waves of humanoid ninja-bots descending from the trees across the river. Fires had broken out everywhere. Raid sirens blasted in the distance. Bram knew he needed to get to a hidden bunker or safe house that had been constructed by the Revolution exactly for these times. There was too much destruction and too many robot intruders in his sector to stay so close to the house. The next series of bunkers was about a mile away to the west. He started running as fast as he could, zigzagging erratically to throw off robot-equipped Predictive Tracking Systems. Behind him, he heard the blast of a weapon he knew very well. The Thermal-Imaging TortoiseMissile.6X used the same polyprojutecon chips that Bram’s company produced and assembled. His bioimplantable sensor told him that this particular missile was fired directly at him. He would have some time, as the TortoiseMissle (a projectile about the size of a football) moved rather slowly so as to avoid hyper-kinetic recognition systems. It made up for it, however, in its disturbingly pinpoint accuracy. Bram desperately needed to reach a bunker.

Track 6 from Second Nature
Length: 00:01:45
Year: 2001
Track Description:
The next mile was like an eternity. Everything around him seemed to fade into the distance. It was almost dreamlike, robots and laser blasts whizzing past him in all directions. Thoughts of Gabriella and his son swirled in his mind. He pictured back to when he first met his wife, on the shores of Lake Madreelo, the summer before the Uprising; to the birth of his son; to the look on his son’s face just that night as he read him to sleep.

While his mind was in a trance-like state, his body had been skillfully evading the danger in his path, instinctively. He hadn’t noticed at first, but as he came back to reality, he saw that he was out of Grid23 and in one of the abandoned sections of the city. There were less robot soldiers simply because fewer humans lived here. He was still being pursued by the TortoiseMissile, however. 15 yards ahead he spotted a familiar cluster of parked cars, piled together in an old playground across from the old City Civic building. Several of the cars were missing their wheels. This was one of the Revolution’s “safe spots.” In order to create plenty of inconspicuous hiding spots across the city, holes were dug in the ground, and a car, or multiple cars, were parked on top of them. The wheels were removed to create a semipermanent bunker, or hiding hole. The larger amounts of metal on the cars would sometimes confuse robot sensors. It wasn’t ideal, but it worked in a pinch. And Bram’s time was almost out as the TortoiseMissle grew closer. This was a pinch.

Track 8 from Zimulated Experienz
Length: 00:05:45
Year: 1998
Track Description:
Bram scrambled to the ground, scraping underneath the vehicle and squeezing into the safe hole. Even though he hadn’t picked up a Bible in over a year, the 23rd Psalm began playing in his head as he situated himself underneath the car on his back. Due to the rains the previous nights, a small body of water had collected in the bottom of the hole. Bram began smearing the cool mud over his body, hoping to change his human-characteristic heat signature and disappear from the thermal imaging tracking missile chasing him. He submerged himself as much as he could into the mud and lay silent. The TortoiseMissile came floating into sight, hovering with a slight whir just feet from where Bram lay. He held his breath, dropping his pulse to a near standstill. After what seemed like an eternity, the TortoiseMissile inched past, confused by the absence of its specified target. Bram remained still and silent. The thermal tracking missile continued for several more feet and then self-destructed, exploding in mid air. A sigh of relief escaped from Bram’s lungs.

Bram remained in his position for several more minutes, observing the panic of other humans running from the robot attackers. They were suffering from extreme cases of millennium fever, unable to produce a single rational thought. Bram kept calm. It was time to follow the emergency escape plan put forth by the Revolution and make his way to a more secure bunker in the Runnington Hills district. It was just on the edge of the city, the terrain rocky enough to prevent many land-based robots from intruding, but close enough for easy city-center access. He knew he had to avoid the subway system and stay off the phone lines. “No one can save you,” he told himself. He had to reconvene with the others.

Track Description:
Many members of the Revolution had already made it to the Runnington Hills bunker, and more were filing in by the minute. The bunker itself was carved from the side of a hill near the Hidden Golf Course, and under the surface it connected with one of the irrigation lockers used by the golf course’s groundskeepers, who had long abandoned their jobs. Bram arrived and made contact with several of the individuals he knew from work. They, too, had loved ones who were taken in the night. A plan was already underway to infiltrate the robot headquarters and deactivate the universal robot transistor and free the human captives. They needed powerful weapons to counter the extremely high-powered robot weapons, otherwise they’d have no chance. The only one with access to that kind of robo-artillery lived in the desert, outside city limits. They’d need cars to get there. Fast ones.

Length: 00:03:55
Year: 2001
Track Description:
Old Man Mestizo lived on the outskirts of town. He ran a junkyard by day, and an illegal automobile black market trade ring by night. He was 70% human and 30% robot. He had been taken prisoner in RU1 and made subject to intense robot experiments—cybernetically enhanced tissue and organs were fused with his human matter. His eyes were the first to be replaced.

He led the members of the Revolution into his junkyard and into a secret tunnel. The descended into the warehouse basement where it was pitch black. Old Man Mestizo turned to face the Revolution, his eyes glowing red. “Well, here we are,” he said as he flipped on the lights.

When he was a child, K.Look’s family had gone into the city for supplies. While there, they were mistaken for robot spies and killed in broad daylight. K.Look vowed to never return to the city. He made it his life’s work to develop weapon technology more powerful than any robot-produced artillery.

Track Description:
The Revolution made it past several robot guards, deeper and deeper into the robot headquarters. They evaded what they thought was the last line of defense. One mistake was made, however. After disabling a pair of robot guards, Bram manually punched in the security code to the 2nd level. All of the robots used infrared to open the blast doors. When the signal was punched in manually, a silent alarm was sent to the control deck. Small, fly-sized robot spies were sent out to investigate and report back. So while the Revolution was under the impression that they were making progress, they were being monitored the whole time, and allowed to proceed this deep into the robot headquarter infrastructure.
